November is Adoption Awareness Month
Each year, November is recognized as Adoption Awareness Month in Ontario. There is a special focus in November on bringing awareness to children currently in the care of Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario who may be adopted into permanent homes with a sense of family and long-term stability.
For some families, adoption is the right way to grow their families and make a lifelong commitment to a child who needs the love and support the family can offer. When the child is adopted, they will no longer have a legal connection to their natural family. In some cases, the child’s birth parents have decided to let the child be adopted or the court has decided that the parents cannot take care of the child. The process for adoptive parents includes a home evaluation and training program.
We’ll be sharing more information about adoptions within Canada and internationally in the coming weeks on our blog.
